This award-winning app fosters meaningful connections with other travelers around the world.

If you’re a solo traveler who loves meeting people along the way – or hates the awkwardness of dining alone – then you will really dig this app that lets you meet five strangers for dinner. TimeLeft organizes restaurant dinners every Wednesday all around the world. Individual travelers (or locals) can sign up, and its powerful personality algorithm will match them with four other like-minded travelers. We have a friend in Paris who does this all the time and she loves it!

How Does it Work?

It’s completely free to sign up! You can either buy a dinner ticket or subscribe to a monthly membership. When you’re ready to dine, simply sign up and show up! They take care of all the planning and will send you details on the top-rated restaurant and insights into your group. Once the diners arrive, they spark conversation with an icebreaker game. After that, you simply enjoy your meal and get to know each other. Every diner is responsible for paying for their own dinner (in addition to the $16 dinner ticket).

After-Dinner Drinks

An hour after dinner starts, you can unlock your Last Drink location in the app. This enables you to meet for drinks after dinner with other local Timeleft diners and keep the evening going. After the evening is over, you can review your experience and choose who you want to stay in touch with. If it’s mutual, you’ll be able to chat and exchange personal information.

NOT a Dating App

While you may end up making an extra-meaningful connection, Timeleft insists that they are not a dating app. The idea is to match five strangers in a relaxed setting that fosters meaningful connections and conversation. (Interestingly, the app was launched in 2020 as a dating app, but after several false starts, pivoted to its current very successful format.)

Where is Timeleft Available?

The good news is that Timeleft is currently available in 285 cities in 65 countries! They bring together 60,000 people in 10,000 dinners every month, and 96% of their groups consider themselves compatible.

Safety Tips and Dining Etiquette

Safety is especially important to solo travelers, and the idea behind this service is to allow people to meet in a pre-arranged and controlled setting. However, they recommend taking the same precautions you would anywhere when interacting with people you don’t know. Read more about their safety and etiquette guidelines here.
