Across hundreds of 2027 sailings in our pricing snapshot, these were the approximate daily prices for two people with the standard inclusions for each experience:

Celebrity and Norwegian are almost tied. Explora costs more upfront, but that gap can shrink once you add the things you actually plan to use. It is simply a different vacation from the one inside the enclave.
Explora Journeys is the alternative. You are not moving between a suite area and a large mainstream ship. Its roughly 922-guest capacity gives the whole ship a luxury feel, and on our sailing there were closer to 750 guests aboard. If consistency and space matter most to you, that distinction is enormous.
MSC Yacht Club: the value choice
We sailed Yacht Club on MSC World Europa and came away impressed by how much private space it offered. On a newer ship, Yacht Club can span multiple decks, with its own restaurant, pool, lounge areas, and a notably good butler experience. It feels like a substantial retreat rather than just a nicer room.
At the lowest average price of these four, it is one of our favorite ways to try suite class. It can also work beautifully for a family: adults get the calmer Yacht Club spaces, while kids can enjoy the slides, pools, and other attractions elsewhere on a large MSC ship. MSC’s shorter three, four, and five night sailings offer a way to test the experience without committing to a full week.
There are a few catches:
- The rest of the ship is still a mega ship. Leaving Yacht Club means joining a much larger passenger population.
- Included Wi-Fi is for browsing, not streaming. We paid extra for streaming access.
- Gratuities cost extra. Include them in your comparison.
- The beverage benefit has a daily limit. The stated limit was 15 drinks per day on the sailing we discussed.
- Specialty restaurants outside Yacht Club cost extra. Your private Yacht Club restaurant is included.
Yacht Club includes access to the thermal spa, which can be a meaningful saving if you would otherwise buy a pass. Just know that the spa is not exclusive to Yacht Club guests. On a sea day, we found it crowded.
One useful booking strategy is an interior Yacht Club suite. Where available, it gives you the Yacht Club service and access without paying for a balcony. You may save around 25%, though these rooms can sell out quickly.
Celebrity The Retreat: choose it for the food
The standout reason we would book The Retreat again is Luminae, Celebrity’s private restaurant for suite guests. We found the food excellent and a clear step up from the good, but less memorable, Yacht Club dining on our MSC sailing. Luminae also features dishes associated with Daniel Boulud.
Depending on the ship, The Retreat can include a private lounge and outdoor areas with a sundeck, pool, hot tubs, and shade. Premium drinks and premium Wi-Fi are typically part of the standard suite booking. Celebrity also does an excellent job with large-scale entertainment.
Pay attention to what is not included. Gratuities cost extra, and dining at Celebrity’s other specialty restaurants generally costs extra unless you book a qualifying top-tier suite. Luminae may be all the specialty dining you need, but the distinction matters if you like moving among restaurants.
Be careful with suite upgrade bids
If you book a balcony stateroom and later win a bid to upgrade to a suite, do not assume the usual premium beverage package and premium Wi-Fi come with that bid. Packages already attached to your original booking can carry over, but winning the room upgrade does not automatically add those benefits. Check the terms before deciding what your bid is worth.
For us, The Retreat is an especially good match when food is the priority and you want a ship that feels more moderate in scale than a mega ship, while still offering strong shows and plenty to do.
NCL The Haven: room for the whole family
The Haven has given us some excellent trips. Its private restaurant, courtyard and pool areas, concierge service, and butlers create a comfortable place to return to after enjoying the rest of the ship.
Norwegian’s real strength is stateroom flexibility. We have stayed in a two-bedroom Haven suite with four people, and larger options such as Garden Villas can accommodate bigger groups. For multigenerational travel, that range matters. Younger kids and teenagers can find plenty of activities on newer NCL ships, while adults still have The Haven as a retreat.
Service can make the busy parts of the ship easier, too. Priority access or reserved seating for some shows is a valuable perk when popular performances fill up. We have sailed Norwegian outside The Haven and know how early you may need to line up for a good seat.
The caution is the package math. Do not assume that booking The Haven automatically includes all the Wi-Fi, beverages, specialty dining, and gratuities you want. Review the Free at Sea benefits attached to your fare and the cost of any upgrade. Specialty dining meals depend on the package and sailing length, and the thermal spa is not included with The Haven.
Norwegian can look like the less expensive, more casual choice until you price the complete trip. At an average of $1,246 per day for two in our snapshot, it deserves the same careful comparison as the other luxury suite options.
Explora Journeys: the whole ship is the luxury experience
Explora is the one that changed how we thought about this comparison. It costs the most in the initial snapshot, but you are buying a different kind of experience: fewer guests, a high level of service throughout the ship, and access to nearly everything without repeatedly asking what costs extra.
Explora’s ships accommodate roughly 922 guests and have about 1.25 hosts or crew members per guest. On our sailing, the smaller guest count was noticeable. Eight of nine dining venues were included, and the food was among the best we have had at sea. Drinks, Wi-Fi, gratuities, and thermal spa access were also included. It is not a completely all-inclusive vacation. Shore excursions cost extra and can be expensive, so it is worth weighing the line’s offerings against independent shore excursion options. One dining venue carried a substantial extra charge, more than $200 per person when we sailed. We skipped it and did not feel deprived, given the quality of the included restaurants.
There are two other important differences. An entry-level Ocean Terrace Suite does not come with a dedicated 24-hour butler; that benefit becomes available in higher suite categories. And while Explora has entertainment, it is not where we would go for the large production shows found on Celebrity or Norwegian.
