Cruises are a huge part of our nomadic travels. We love them; in fact, we got married on a cruise back in 1997. We’ve taken over fifty cruises on 12 different cruise lines (plus 4 river cruises on 4 lines).
Cruise to Fit Your Lifestyle
Our cruise style has evolved over the years. When our daughter was young, they were a great way to see the world. We could see lots of countries and discover the places we wanted to return to. Because cruise lines really cater to kids, she was able to have a great time no matter her age.
For a while, we loved going on the biggest, newest ships and seeing everything they had to offer. Nowadays, we prefer the smaller ships with country-intensive itineraries.

Cruises as Transportation
In addition to cruising just for fun, or doing a country-intensive itinerary, we regularly use cruises as cost-effective transportation. What does this mean? This refers to taking a repositioning cruise – a one-way cruise that will get us from one place to another. These occur when the cruise line is moving the ship from one region to another for the season and there are loads of them. We’ve done three transatlantic cruises, one from South America to North America, and one from Singapore to Sydney. It’s a great way to get from Point A to Point B, and the cost can be SHOCKINGLY low.

Our Favorite Cruise Lines
Our current favorite cruise lines are Azamara, Virgin Voyages, Celebrity, and Royal Caribbean. However, we regularly try other lines as well. In fact, some of our eleven upcoming cruises include Oceania and Princess. For us, operating on a nomad budget, finding a deal that can lower our daily cost is more important than the line, ship or itinerary.
