Malta

Malta is an island nation located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. In the path of ancient trading routes, Malta has been inhabited since 5900 B.C. and had a succession of rulers including the Romans, Moors, Knights of Saint John, French and British. Malta has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Valletta, the capital.

We spent a week on Malta in 2017 and found that there is a staggering amount to see, from beautiful natural formations and sea views, to ancient ruins and historical sites, to stunning architectural achievements. It’s incredibly scenic, and no wonder that so many scenes from The Game of Thrones was filmed here. Since the island is small, you can easily see a lot, and when you get bored you can explore the nearby island of Gozo, which also has much to explore.
